The CDT’s Sunday editorial (“Safer Route 322 needed”) was right on target.
It is inconceivable that such a large and growing area such as Centre County has such a limited-access road to the southeastern part of the state in this day and age.
I cannot imagine there are many other communities as large as State College, anywhere in the United States, that have such poor highways inbound and outbound.
This shortfall has not only been the cause of unnecessary fatalities over the past few decades, but also probably hundreds of unnecessary injuries.
If there were an emergency when a temporary evacuation is needed to the southeast, the toll on this community would be significant. It is important that we all lobby our state representatives to have this situation rectified as quickly as possible.
