Letter to the editor: Join Citizens’ Climate Lobby to fix climate

Thank you for Lori Falce’s terrific article about Richard Alley’s climate change research and international award. According to the article, Alley intends to continue his work “and turn the knowledge into useful things.”

The most useful thing that can come from Alley’s work is national legislation to stabilize the climate. I urge readers to join Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a grassroots organization of volunteers with chapters covering almost every congressional district. Our volunteers are helping members of Congress understand that a carbon pollution fee paid by fossil fuel producers, with all revenue fully rebated to the public, is our best policy option to reduce emissions and slow climate change.

Many members of the public find climate change to be so overwhelming they choose to ignore it, hoping it will go away. However, denial and apathy rarely fix problems. Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteers are working on a viable solution so we have hope. We work in our local chapters so we have a support system to chase away despair. We lobby our members of Congress for national legislation and doing our civic duty fills us with pride and respect for our system of government

Please join your local CCL chapter and make your government work for you.
