Letter to the editor: A better idea for train service

I have enjoyed riding trains since childhood, and I’m excited with the news that Amtrak wants to serve State College. However, the answer is not via Tyrone. A bus or rail-spur from Tyrone to State College will not be much used.

Rather, establish a new State College Amtrak stop at Spruce Creek, halfway between Tyrone and Huntingdon, with CATA bus service meeting each train. Thus, instead of a 30-mile drive over mountains to Tyrone or Lewistown, the new rail stop at Spruce Creek is but 20-miles down the valley from State College. Properly-timed trains, with CATA service, will benefit our town and gown greatly!
