I thank the Centre Daily Times for reporting the May 19 SCWBA meeting about the proposed Toll Bros. and Penn State development in Ferguson Township.
I went to that meeting to find out why yet another large student development was being proposed on such a beautiful stretch of farmland and was horrified to hear that Toll Bros. paid a federal fine of $714,000 in 2012 to resolve alleged Clean Water Act violations at its construction sites, including several sites in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Not only that, but the following year Toll Bros. was again being investigated, this time by the Environmental Protection Agency, for alleged water violations in the Lehigh Valley.
Why are we risking our clean-water supply by letting a large corporation with a documented track record of water-safety violations build in our water catchment area?
