Letter to the editor: Better than Stephen Curry shooting threes

Recently much has been written about the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, who was deservedly named NBA Most Valuable Player.

Prominent in these reports were superlatives regarding Curry’s having made 77 consecutive three-pointers in a practice session last month. Impressive as that may be, any discussion of skill in shooting a basketball from beyond the arc is not complete without mention of the record set by my friend and college football teammate, the late Fred Newman, whose world record of 209 — set and recorded on video in 1996 — still stands.
