I used to enjoy watching the town hall meetings held by former Sen. Arlen Specter.
He would speak to an auditorium full of people and then, with microphone in hand, would walk through the crowd, taking questions and giving answers.
If a constituent had a problem with some federal agency, Specter would have one of his staffers take down the information so that he could follow up on it when he returned to Washington.
I doubt we will ever see such action from Rep. Glenn Thompson.

Thompson doesn’t do well on the fly. His answers are more like scripted responses. For him to answer questions in a town hall setting might provide constituents with some real insight into the caliber of the person they have sent to Washington.
No, fellow citizens, don’t hold your breath. You have a better chance of seeing Lady Gaga at a town hall meeting in State College.
Remember this the next time you see a column in the CDT with his name on it. You see, this is the forum he’s best at. It’s measured, scripted and probably written by one of his aides back in Washington.
