Letter to the editor: Seeking a respite from noise

Every weekend and most weekdays all summer, power lawnmowers, weed whackers, pressure washers, sidewalk edgers and myriad other modern conveniences fill the outdoor air with noise and exhaust fumes.

Just as one neighbor finishes a chore, the next neighbor starts one, and on it goes from sunrise until well after sunset.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have one day each summer month when no power equipment is used outdoors? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to mark a day on your calendar when you knew for certain that your family event, neighborhood activity or your relaxation time outdoors would be power-equipment noise- and exhaust-fume free?

Could the Centre County commissioners poll the residents or outright declare a voluntary noise-free day each for June, July and August 2016?
