Letter to the editor: State College Police Chief Tom King handled situation correctly

After a recent CDT article, a few online commenters expressed their opinions of the State College Police Department and Chief Tom King.

Chief King is my father and, yes, my opinion is very biased. When someone questions the integrity of my father, I think their opinion loses all credibility.

Chief King has always stood for the right thing, knowing that he is not going to please everyone. I doubt anyone else could handle his position with the integrity and class he exhibits each day

Perfect example: He discovered an officer had been tampering with evidence and instead of quietly handling the situation internally, he decided to respect the community and be transparent about the crime by requesting that the state police investigate and bring any necessary charges.

You may not know Chief King was the president of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, where he promoted and improved the accreditation program of law enforcement agencies in the state.

This program audits agencies to ensure their policies are in line with the standards of the commonwealth. The department, under Chief King, is fully accredited. As chief of police for the past 22 years, he has been honest, forthright and ethical in his management of the department. I hope I’m not the only one who realizes his outstanding service to this community.
