As a UPS businessman and resident of State College for more than 20 years, I thank U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, for his support for trade promotion authority legislation.
Making international trade easier for small businesses in Pennsylvania and around the country encourages economic growth and helps create jobs. In fact, every 22 packages a day that cross an international border support one job in UPS’s package operations.
Each day, UPS alone handles 6 percent of U.S. GDP and 2 percent of global GDP. Global trade, therefore, is important to the future of UPS and our more than 350,000 employees in the United States and 17,705 employees in Pennsylvania.
The trade agreements that TPA will help facilitate are essential for UPS growth in Pennsylvania.
By supporting Trade Promotion Authority, Thompson has shown his commitment to bolstering the Pennsylvania economy and businesses, large and small.
Expanding trade is vital to the U.S. economy and to UPS, opening new markets for our customers and creating more opportunity for American businesses and job seekers. I encourage anyone who cares about supporting small businesses, helping to create jobs and growing our economy to also voice their support for trade.
