When we lived in Penns Valley it was not unusual to hear people complain about various topics. It was also unusual to get anyone to do anything about their complaints.
They complained about a civic center at the high school; they complained about a lot of topics. If you want to hear the latest topic of complaints all you need to do is visit one of the “local breakfast clubs” and listen to the rhetoric.
These people will not attend school board meetings or call their representatives or go to meetings till it directly impacts them or their wallets. They complain about people who do speak up on the same topics that bother them but are too afraid to speak up on the subject because it may bother one of their neighbors.
No one asks why some people that have school jobs and are overpaid, or if their position is even needed. No one asks why they need separate bus routes for smaller kids when many schools let all age kids ride together to save costs. No one complains about teachers’ retirement pay. If you do not go to the meetings and make yourself heard and wait till it is too late, you get higher taxes. Go to the school board meetings, the township meetings and see your representatives. Don’t just sit and complain to others who cannot fix your problems. Get involved. Only then, if you cannot make the changes, do you have reason to complain.
