If anything positive can come of the recent fatal accident at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Park Avenue, it will be our legislature’s bipartisan effort to provide local police with the radar and red-light cameras they need to slow traffic and thus increase safety in Centre County.
Rep. Scott Conklin has sent his proposal for amended legislation to Sen. Jake Corman, requesting that he offer a companion piece in the Senate. Because Corman’s office has been working with local residents to address the issue, we’re optimistic that he will comply and that both lawmakers will actively promote the legislation to reduce serious accidents in the Centre Region and elsewhere.
