I live on Route 144. That road is a dangerous choice for bicycling.
The section between Pleasant Gap and Bellefonte (through Axemann) is the most dangerous: four miles of blind curves, narrow lanes and no shoulders, bracketed at both ends by taverns. I am reluctant to drive it in my truck.
I lived in Oregon for five years. Two cyclists I knew were involved in serious accidents; one died, the other was never the same.
Our still mostly rural county offers many great choices for cycling. Route 144 between Bellefonte and Pleasant Gap just isn’t one of them.
