I agreed with Joe Mogus’ letter (CDT, Aug. 5), but Axemann Road isn’t the only unsafe road for bicyclists to ride on. Plus they ride on snowy and slushy roads in the winter. They ride side by side so one of them is in the lane of traffic.
Is that safe?
I was under the understanding that it is illegal for bicyclists to ride double. They also commonly run red lights and stop signs. I see it all the time.
Even if there is a wide enough berm for them to safely ride, many insist on being in the lane. What is wrong with all the money that has been spent on all the scenic bike paths in the county? If they insist on riding in the lane, then they should be licensed, have a flashing red light, if going under 40 mph, and be made to take a safe riding course.
