American Legion

Mifflin County no-hits Bellefonte

Bellefonte pitchers Ben McCartney and Adam Armstrong combined to throw a two-hitter Thursday, but that still wasn't enough as the bats of the Bellefonte Bandits fell silent in a 1-0 loss to Mifflin County in American Legion action.

Mifflin County's Ross Underhill walked three but finished with a complete-game no-hitter. He also struck out seven.

No hits were even involved in Mifflin County's game-winner. In the fourth inning, the first batter reached on an infield error before McCartney walked the next batter. A wild pitch moved both runners up, and Isaac Maclay then hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field to drive in the game's only run.

Armstrong came on in the fifth inning and threw five straight strikeouts.

Bellefonte (2-1) will take on Beech Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home.
