State College baseball team has site, time set for PIAA semifinal game

The State College baseball team is a win away from the state championship game, and now the team knows where it has to get that win to play in the finals.

The Little Lions (13-10) will take on Dallastown at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Hershey High School in the PIAA Class 6A semifinals.

State College reached the semifinals for the first time in a decade with a 3-1 victory over Penn Manor on Thursday.

The Cougars (22-4), the District 3 champions, beat St. Joseph’s Prep 5-1 on Thursday.

District 11 champion Liberty and District 1 champ Pennsbury are tangling in the other semifinal Monday. The winners will battle for the state title at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

State College has not played in a state title game since the finals were moved to Penn State, and played its first game on the field in program history earlier this season against Bellefonte.

The Little Lions are seeking their first state championship game appearnace since 2005, when they lost 2-0 to Penn Manor at Altoona’s Blair County Ballpark. State College won its only state title in 1979.
