Grand slam keeps Blanchard perfect

BLANCHARD — Brian Nestor smacked a fifth-inning grand slam as Blanchard improved to 6-0 by defeating Port Matilda 14-5 in Centre County League play on Sunday.

The Bees only outhit the Porters 9-8, but they made their hits count. B.J. Batterson homered and Cody Garis singled three times as Blanchard scored seven runs in the second and six in the fifth.

Blanchard also received a strong start from Lyle Karstetter who tossed a complete game and struck out 12. Karstetter received help from a defense that didn’t commit an error.

Hunter Millward homered for Port Matilda and Shawn Breon and Chris Decker added doubles.

Howard 8, Bellefonte Governors 0

HOWARD — Brian Pelka recorded nine strikeouts and had a no-hitter going through five innings to lead Howard past the Bellefonte Governors. Howard’s offense recorded eight hits. Eric Gates singled twice and doubled, Travis Fisher doubled and Travis Price ripped a two-run single in the sixth. The Governors only two hits off Pelka were singles in the sixth and seventh innings.

Lemont 5, Centre Hall 1

LEMONT — Four straight two-out singles in the bottom of the sixth turned a close game into a victory for Lemont.

Eric Wolanksi led off the inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Later in the sixth, the Ducks (2-2) scored three runs on two-out singles by Brook Hart, John Pelky, Travis Shingleton and Andy Grim.

Grim pitched the final three innings and earned the win. Mike Watson started the game for Lemont and recorded seven strikeouts in four scoreless innings. The duo combined to allow just two hits.

Rich Auman struck out eight and Terry Lingle doubled for Centre Hall. Bellefonte Brewers 10, Spring Mills 6

SPRING MILLS — The Bellefonte Brewers recorded 10 hits and scored seven unearned runs to defeat Spring Mills. Curt Smith and Clay Smith both recorded two singles while Chris Cunningham homered for the Brewers. Doug Leitch singled twice for Spring Mills which received an eight-strikeout performance from pitcher Tyler Waltz.

Todd Orndorf earned the win for the Brewers.
