High school softball: Six Philipsburg-Osceola players named to all-state second team; Bellefonte, Bald Eagle Area players honored

Six Philipsburg Osceola players and one Bellefonte player earned second team All-State honors as selected by a poll of state media and coaches.

The Lady Mounties (23-2) won their District 6 Class AA title and advanced to the PIAA semifinals.

They were led by pitcher Kate Burge, who went 20-1 with a 1.09 ERA. Joining Burge on the second team for five more Lady Mounties. Shortstop Abby Showers led the P-O hitters with a .565 average, five homers and 31 RBIs. First baseman McKenzie Burge (.405, 25 RBIs) and catcher Carly Gonder (.355, two homers) also make the squad from the P-O infield. Haley Frank (.431, two homers) and Megan Bainey (.401, three homers) also made the second team from the Lady Mountie outfield.

Bald Eagle Area’s Megan Dudish (12-5) was a honorable mention pick in Class AA.

Bellefonte’s powerful catcher Vanessa Cooper was a second team selection is Class AAA. Cooper hit .469 with three homers last season. Lady Raider shortstop Erica DeVinney (.427, two homers, five triples) was an honorable mention pick.
