The Bald Eagle Area 12U Little League softball team continued its quest for a state championship with a Section 4 title win on Friday.
BEA, which advanced to the Section 4 title game after a productive district slate, hammered Kittanning in a decisive second game 12-1 in just four innings. The Eagles got offensive production from up and down the lineup. Mackenzie McCloskey, Brooke Woodward each drilled two singles while Megan Kresovich notched a single and a triple. Zoey Surovec doubled and Kayleigh Kinley picked up the win for BEA.
The Eagles edged Kittanning in Game 1 on Wednesday 2-1.
BEA was equally impressive in the district tournament.
The Eagles followed an opening 12-10 loss to Mifflin County by eliminating State College 12-0 — which had lost to Mifflin County. The win over State College propelled BEA into a second matchup with Mifflin County. BEA beat Mifflin County 15-5 on June 27 to force a decisive Game 3, which BEA won 13-2 in four innings to secure the district title.
BEA will play in the state tournament in Stroudsburg. The tournament is set for a July 10 start. The Eagles will meet Section 3 champion Clinton County in the opening round.
