State College’s Jennifer Borigo set state records and qualified for the national championships at the Pennsylvania State Weightlifting Championships and York Open on Saturday.
Borigo, who works and trains at CrossFit Nittany, finished with a 127-kilogram total. Competing at a body weight of under 53 kilograms (114 pounds), she missed on her first attempt in the snatch, broke the state record on the second attempt at 53 kilos (123.5 pounds), then broke the mark again at 59 kilos (130 pounds) on her third attempt.
In the clean and jerk, she opened at 65 kilos (143.3 pounds) and her total weight of 124 kilos qualified her for the American Open Championships. On her second attempt she succeeded at 68 kilos (149.9 pounds) to reach a 127 kilo total and make the national championships. She was unable to hold her lift at 70 kilos on her final attempt.
Borigo was named best lifter in the women’s open division and was the only lifter at the competition to make the national meet.
