Centre County Baseball League: Lemont thumps Clarence, leads playoff series 2-0

Lemont lashed 19 singles in a 22-hit performance as the Ducks hammered Clarence 20-1 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.

Johnny Martinez’s four singles led an attack that featured eight players with multiple hits as Lemont tatooed three Mountie pitchers.

Clarence actually led 1-0 in the contest as Derek Jabco scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first.

The Ducks took control in their next at-bat, scoring seven times after two outs. Nick Carothers started the offensive explosion with an RBI single. Martinez followed with a two-run single to put Lemont ahead for good at 3-1. Shane Regel also had a two-ruin single and Erik Kempton and Kyle Wright added RBI singles in the inning.

The outburst was more than enough for Matt Smith, who tossed a six-hitter with six strikeouts.

Aaron Sallade blasted a solo home run in the third inning and added two singles for the Ducks. Carothers (double), Ryan Boonie and Wright also had three hits each. Regel (double) and Kiernan Kempton added two hits apiece.

Ryan MacNamara singled twice for the Mounties.

Lemont can clinch a berth in the championship series with a win Tuesday at Spring Creek Park at 5:45 p.m.
