Defending league champion Philipsburg overcame Howard’s six-run second inning and rallied for a 10-7 triumph to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.
The Pirates, who lost for the first time all season in a 3-1 defeat on Sunday, used three home runs in the contest to overcome the Hawks.
Matt McCamley hit a two-run blast in the first inning. John Shaffer smashed a two-run homer and Parker Watson added a solo shot in a three-run fifth. With the score tied, the Pirates scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win.
McCamley led Philipsburg with three hit and four RBIs. Matt Curtis also had three hits and scored three runs.
Jordan Faretta and Watson (three runs) added two hits each. Aaron Lidgett allowed one run in four innings of relief to earn the victory.
The Philipsburg defense turned three double plays.
Rusty Gates belted three hits for the Hawks. Dan Cole added two hits, including a double.
Game 4 is at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Howard.
