Campus Corner: Gill sisters earn Commonwealth Conference honors in soccer

State College graduates Kelsey and Katelyn Gill were honored by the Commonwealth Conference last week.

Katelyn earned second-team all-conference honors on a defense that allowed only 19 goals in 20 games. She also scored a goal and had an assist during the season.

Kelsey was given honorable mention status. She scored six goals and had an assist. She is now fourth on the all-time scoring list at Alvernia, which finished its regular season at 11-7-2 and earned the No. 8 seed in the ECAC south region tournament. The Crusaders will meet top-seeded Stevenson on Wednesday.


Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) has 15 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and also has two tackles.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) has carried the ball 41 times for 145 yards and a touchdown and has returned five kickoffs for 111 yards. Juniata is 6-3.

Coleman Rigg (Bellefonte, Juniata) has carried the ball twice for seven yards.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) had one pass breakup against Cheyney. Updated stats were unavailable on Monday. Shippensburg is 7-3.

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has 14 solo tackles and 11 assists, 7 1/2 tackles for loss for minus-46 yards, five sacks for minus-39 yards, a quarterback hurry and a blocked kick. Buffalo has won seven straight games and is now 7-2.

Alex Boumerhi (P-O, Lock Haven) had two PATs and a 45-yard field goal Saturday in a loss against Kutztown. Updated statistics were unavailable Monday.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) kicked seven PATs in a 55-12 win over FDU-Florham. He now has made 26 of 29 PATs and 6 of 8 field goals. Lycoming is 6-3.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) continues to start at long snapper for the Orangemen, who are 5-4 and will play Florida State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.

Jon Cox (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has nine solo tackles and eight assists. He has one-half tackle for loss and one blocked kick. F&M is 5-4.


Andy Blunk (State College, Juniata) has two goals and three assists. Juniata is 13-6-2 and is awaiting word on a possible berth in the ECAC tournament.

Anthony Glossner (Penns Valley, Juniata) has started 20 games on defense.

Reese Fisher (State College, Juniata) has played in 11 games on defense.

Devin Kos (Bellefonte, Juniata) has played in 18 games, starting 17 on defense. Juniata is 14-5.

Ally Reid (State College, F&M) finished the season with two assists as F&M posted a 5-9-3 record.

David Trunzo (State College, St. Francis) scored two goals against Robert Morris on Saturday. He has three for the season. St. Francis is 11-4-3 and will play in the NEC tournament.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) starts on defense for Slippery Rock, which is 13-3-2 and was upset by Gannon 1-0 in the PSAC semifinals. Slippery Rock now awaits word on a bid to the NCAA Atlantic Region tournament.

Megan Porter (State College, Geneva) finished her season with three assists as Geneva closed with a 6-12 record.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has two goals and two assists. Lebanon Valley is 11-8-2 and waiting to hear if it will receive a bid to the ECAC tournament.

Dieter Bahr (State College, Delaware) has played in eight games and taken two shots. Delaware is 14-4.


Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has one kill, seven assists, 25 digs and four aces. Muhlenberg is 20-12.

Alexandra Fleagle (State College, Slippery Rock) had 10 assists in a 3-0 loss to Seton Hill. Complete stats were unavailable. Slippery Rock is 10-23.

Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 135 kills, six assists, an ace, 12 digs, and 73 blocks. DePaul is 16-10.

Megan Flick (BEA, Lock Haven) had nine kills against West Chester. Updated stats were unavailable.

Kendra Fetzer (BEA, Lock Haven) no updated stats available. Lock Haven is 19-13.

Suzanne Horner (State College, Miss. State) has 42 kills, 858 assists, 27 aces, 171 digs and 23 blocks. Mississippi State is 11-15.

Emma Weakland (State College, Winthrop) has 44 kills, 11 digs, nine blocks and an ace. Winthrop is 15-12.

Kayla Confer (BEA, Lebanon Valley) was named to the MAC All-Conference second team. She has 311 kills, 11 assists, 41 aces, 23 digs and 12 blocks. Lebanon Valley is 28-7.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) has a goal and an assist. Juniata is 9-11 and waiting to hear if it received an ECAC bid.

Tori Patrick (State College, Washington & Jefferson) finished the season with five assists. W&J was 13-6

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) scored her first goal of the season against F&M last week. Haverford lost to F&M in the Centennial Conference playoffs and finished with an 11-8 record.

Cross country

Matt Brooker (Penns Valley, Cedarville) placed fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet with a time of 31 minutes, 23 seconds and will go on to the NCAA Division II national championship meet.


Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) played two minutes and missed two field goal attempts against Penn State.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 3-point field goal, an assist and a rebound. Kutztown is 0-2.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) has played in one game and has six rebounds, eight assists and seven points. Truman State is 1-0.


Marie Ginger (State College, Gettysburg) placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 11.42 seconds and third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.41 in a dual meet with Ursinus.

Sam Eaton (State College, Dickinson) was on the winning 400 medley relay team in a quad meet at York College. The winning time was 3:37.73.

Alex Hillsley (State College, Delaware) won the 100 backstroke in 1:51.20, the 200 backstroke in 1:54.08 and the 200 individual medley in 1:55.94 in a tri-meet with LaSalle and Rider.
