Campus corner: Confer shines in ECAC volleyball tournament

Bald Eagle Area graduate Kayla Confer was named the Most Outstanding Player in the ECAC tournament over the weekend.

She had 11 kills in the semifinals and 10 in the finals as Lebanon Valley won its first conference championship.

For the season she had 332 kills, 11 assists, 43 aces, 75 digs and 31 blocks. Lebanon Valley closed with a record of 30-7.

Football

Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) had 15 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns and also two tackles. Juniata finished the season with a 7-3 record, the first time the Eagles have won seven games since 1990.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) had 41 carries for 145 yards and a touchdown.

Coleman Rigg (Bellefonte, Juniata) had two carries for seven yards.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has 11 solo tackles and five assists, one pass breakup, one pass defended and one quarterback hurry. Shippensburg finished with a 7-4 record.

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has 16 solo tackles and 11 assists, 2 1/2 tackles for losses of 46 yards, five sacks for losses of 39 yards, one quarterback hurry and one blocked kick. Buffalo is 7-3 and will play Miami (Ohio) Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.

Alex Boumerhi (P-O, Lock Haven) finished the season with eight field goals in 12 tries, 11 extra points in 15 attempts and was second on the team in scoring with 35 points, one less than the leader. Lock Haven finished 3-8.

Bernard Smack (State College, Lock Haven) had six receptions for 43 yards and returned 14 kicks for 293 yards.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) closed his career with four extra points in a 36-20 win over Stevenson. For the season, Czap made 6 of 10 field goals, 30 of 34 extra points, averaged 38.1 yard on 45 punts and 53.5 yards on 34 kickoffs. Lycoming finished in a tie with Lebanon Valley for the MAC title with a 7-3 record.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) remains the starting long snapper for the Orangemen, who are 5-5 after falling to Florida State 59-3 on Saturday. They will entertain Pitt on Saturday in the Carrier Dome.

Jon Cox (State College, Franklin & Marshall) had nine solo tackles and 10 assists, one sack for a loss of eight yards, 1 1/2 tackles for losses of nine yards and a blocked kick. F&M has record of 6-4 and will face Delaware State in an ECAC Bowl on Saturday.

Soccer

Andy Blunk (State College, Juniata) had two goals and three assists in his senior season. Juniata lost a shootout to Lebanon Valley in the ECAC playoffs and ended with a 13-6-3 record.

Anthony Glossner (Penns Valley, Juniata) played in 21 games and took nine shots as a senior.

Reese Fisher (State College, Juniata) played in 11 games.

Devin Kos (Bellefonte, Juniata) played in 19 games. Juniata lost to Grove City 6-0, in the ECAC and finished 14-6.quarterfinals and finished with

David Trunzo (State College, St. Francis) had three goals in his senior season. St. Francis lost to Bryant 3-0 in the NEC playoffs and finished with a record of 11-4-4.

Katelyn Gill (State College, Alvernia) had a goal and an assist as Alvernia went 11-8-2, losing to Stevenson 1-0 in the ECAC South Regional quarterfinals.

Kelsey Gill (State College, Alvernia) had six goals and an assist.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) has started all 19 games on defense. Slippery Rock is 14-3-2 after beating Shippensburg, 2-1 and advancing to the Sweet 16 where it will meet PSAC rival California, Pa., on Friday in the Atlantic Region South tournament.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) finished her senior season with three goals and two assists. Lebanon Valley lost ot Swarthmore 3-2 in the ECAC quarterfinals to finish 11-9-2.

Dieter Bahr (State College, Delaware) played in eight games. Delaware is 14-4-1 after losing to Drexel in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals. The Blue Hens will face St. John’s on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

Volleyball

Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has a kill, seven assists, 25 digs, a block and four aces. Muhlenberg is 20-12.

Alexandra Fleagle (State College, Slippery Rock) had 69 kills, 445 assists, 16 aces, 152 digs and 20 blocks. Slippery Rock finished with a 10-25 record.

Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 153 kills, six assists, an ace, 12 digs and 78 blocks. DePaul is 16-12.

Megan Flick (BEA, Lock Haven) has 209 kills, 13 assists, 28 aces, 12 digs and 78 blocks. Lock Haven is 12-10 and advances to the PSAC playoffs.

Kendra Fetzer (BEA, Lock Haven) has 58 kills, 123 assists, 18 aces, 80 digs and 18 blocks.

Suzanne Horner (State College, Mississippi State) has 44 kills, 894 assists, 29 aces, 178 digs and 23 blocks. Mississippi State is 11-17.

Emma Weakland (State College, Winthrop) has 44 kills, an ace, 11 digs and nine blocks. Winthrop is 17-12.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) had a goal and an assist. Juniata lost to Catholic University in the Landmark Conference playoffs to finish with a record of 9-11.

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) had a goal and two assists as Haverford went 11-8.

Cross country

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehana) posted a time of 26:24 to place 70th in the Mideast Regional meet where Susquehanna finished ninth.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) placed 43rd in the Mideast Regional in 25:54.

Wrestling

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) sat out the season opener with Virginia Tech due to injury. The Hokies beat the Scots 23-14. Edinboro is idle until Dec. 6 when it entertains Iowa.

Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Stevens Tech) is 6-6 at 157 pounds.

Basketball

Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) has a 16.0 average. He also averages 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.5 stals and .5 blocks per game. Juniata is 1-1.

Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) has scored two points and has an average of 1.0 rebounds. 5 steals and .5 blocks.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) is averaging 18.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals and 1.0 blocks. Juniaa is 2-0.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has three rebounds, an assist and 10 points. Pitt-Greensburg is 1-1.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has played three minutes to date. St. Francis is 0-2.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) is averaging .3 rebounds, 1.0 points and .7 assists. Kutztown is 1-2.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) has 15 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and a 9.5 scoring average. Truman State is 2-0.

Mary Pillot (BEA, PSU-DuBois) scored 14 points and had five rebounds and an assist against Pitt-Titusville. Penn State-DuBois is 0-2.

Swimming

Sam Eaton (State College, Dickinson) was on the third place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:40.98 in a 132--67 loss to Bloomsburg.

Kelsy Lelko (State College, PSU-Altoona) was second in the 1,500 freestyle in 21:01.76 and swam on the second place 200 freestyle relay team that had a time of 2:16.05. Altoona lost to Frostburg State, 105-82.
