Campus corner: State College’s McDonald and Juniata basketball team off to hot start

State College graduate Kate McDonald is off to a hot start in her senior season with the Juniata basketball team.

She is averaging a double-double with 19.8 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. She also averages 4.5 assists. 4.0 steals and 0.8 blocks. She had 26 points and 14 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, to lead Juniata to an 86-81 win over Gwynedd-Mercy.

Juniata has a 4-0 record to begin the season.

Basketball

Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) averages 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks. Juniata is 3-1.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has 28 rebounds, seven assists, 4 steals and averages 11.0 points per game. Mansfield is 0-4.

Brittany Butterworth (Bald Eagle Area, Pitt-Greensburg) has a 3.8 scoring average, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Pitt-Greensburg is 1-3..

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has played in four games but has no stats. St. Francis is 1-3.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has played in five games and has two rebounds, two assists, one steal and a 1.0 scoring average.

Kaitlyn Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) averages 7.5 assists, 9.2 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. Fayette is 1-4.

Mary Pillot (BEA, PSU-DuBois) in the last two games she has come off the bench and scored 18 points with four assists, seven rebounds and a steal. DuBois is 0-4.

Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) averages 1.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.2 blocked shots.

Swimming

Sam Eaton (State College, Dickinson) finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 1.56 seconds at the Gettysburg Invitational.

Football

Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) finished with 15 catches for 164 yards and had two tackles. Juniata lost to Albright 45-34 in an ECAC playoff game over the weekend to finish with a 7-4 record.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) finished with 49 carries for 165 yards and a touchdown, had five receptions for 64 yards and five kick returns for 111 yards.

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has 16 solo tackles, 11 assists, 7 1/2 tackles for loss for minus-46 yards, five sacks for minus-39 yards, one quarterback hurry and one blocked kick. Buffalo is 8-3 and will play Bowling Green on Friday in a game that will be televised on ESPNU.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) earned Mid-Atlantic Conference honorable mention honors. He finished third in the conference in punting with a 38.1 average. He was second on the team in scoring with 48 points while making six of 10 field goals and 30 of 34 PATs. Lycoming finished 7-3.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) was the long-snapper in Saturday’s 17-16 loss to Pittsburgh for the Orange (5-6).

Soccer

Dieter Bahr (State College, Delaware) played in nine games for the season and registered one shot in 26 minutes as Delaware lost to St. John’s 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to finish with a 14-5-1 record.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) saw her college career end with a 1-0 loss to American International in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. She started all 21 games on defense, and her class leaves as one of the winningest in program history. Slippery Rock finished with a record of 15-4-2.

Volleyball

Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 155 kills, six assists, one ace, 14 digs and 80 blocks. DePaul is 16-14.

Suzanne Horner (State College, Miss. State) has 936 assists, 48 kills, 31 aces, 182 digs and 27 blocks. Mississippi State is 11-19.
