Campus Corner: Big win lands Bellefonte’s Port big honors at Edinboro

Mitchell Port made it easy for the folks who select the Wrestler of the Week for the Eastern Wrestling League and the Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference.

All the former Bellefonte wrestler did was go out and win the prestigious Midlands Tournament last week, raise his record to 14-0 this season and his national ranking to No. 1 at 141 pounds.

Nobody topped that.

Port went 5-0 at the Midlands, recording bonus points in four of his five bouts on his way to winning the title.

The junior will return to action this weekend when the Fighting Scots participate in the Virginia Duals.


Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) ia averaging 14.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He also averages 1.2 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks while helping Juniata to a 10-2 record.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) averages a double-double with 18.8 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. She also averages 3.7 assists, 3.5 steals and 0.8 blocks. Juniata is 6-5.

Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) is averaging 2.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.1 steals and 0.2 blocks.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) is averaging 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and has 25 assist and 23 steals. Mansfield is 0-13.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) averages 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game along with 11 assists and five steals. Pitt-Greensburg is 5-5.

Matt Mazzara (State College, St. Francis) has seen action in one game. St. Francis is 2-11.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) averages 0.3 points per game and has two rebounds and one assist. St. Francis is 2-10.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 6.2 scoring average. She also averages 1.0 rebounds, and 0.6 assists and has five steals. Kutztown is is 5-7.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) has an 8.2 points-per-game scoring averages. He also averages 3.0 rebounds and has 29 assists and 11 steals. Truman State is 8-3.

Maddie Bastress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) averages 0.8 points per game. She also has six rebounds and one steal. W&J is 7-4.

Kaitlyn Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) is averaging a double-double so far this season with 13.1 points per game, 11.1 rebounds per game along with 1.9 blocks, 0.7 assists and 0.2 steals per game. Penn State-Fayette is 6-4.
