Little League baseball: Big Valley eliminates Philipsburg from District 5 11-12 All-Star tournament

Big Valley scored 10 runs in the first inning and held off Philipsburg-Osceola’s rally for a 15-9 losers’ bracket triumph in the District 5 11-12 Little League All-Star tournament on Sunday.

P-O rallied to within 11-9 after four innings, but Big Valley scored four runs in the top of the fifth to pull away.

Tyler Doyle had two hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth, to lead P-O. Tyson Lamb added a single and a double and scored three runs.

Big Valley advances to face Mifflin County, which eliminated Bald Eagle Area with an 11-1 triumph on Sunday. That winner will travel to Bellefonte for the losers’ bracket final at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Unbeaten Clearfield will host the losers’ bracket winner at 6 p.m. on Sunday in a potential championship game. If Clearfield falls in that game, the tournament finale will be held July 7 at 6 p.m.
