Campus Corner: State College grad Horner setting up success at Iowa State

State College graduate Suzanne Horner has made herself at home at her new school, starting at setter this season for the Iowa State women’s volleyball team.

She has 308 assists through nine matches, averaging 10.62 per set, which ranks 52nd in Division I.

Horner transferred to the Lady Cyclones from Mississippi State after last season. She has 21 kills, nine aces, 66 digs and 13 blocks to go with her assists. Iowa State is off to a 6-3 start, with each loss to top-20 teams.


Shane Dorner (State College, Lafayette) has three assisted tackles and one tackle for loss for minus-two yards. Lafayette is 1-2.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) has rushed six times for 38 yards and caught six passes for 58 yards. Juniata is 2-1.

Colton Meyers (State College, Juniata) has one solo tackle and two assists.

Coleman Rigg (Bellefonte, Juniata) has one assisted tackle.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has four solo tackles and one assist, one-half tackle for loss for minus-three yars and one quarterback hurry.

Alex Boumerhi (P-O, Lock Haven) has made two of five field goal attempts and all four PAT kicks. He also has one solo tackle.

Bernard Smack (State College, Lock Haven) has caught 15 passes for 130 yards and returned six kicks for 130 yards. He also has two solo tackles. Lock Haven is 0-3

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) remains the starter as the long snapper for the Orangemen, who are 2-1 after losing to Maryland 34-20 Saturday.

Jon Cox (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has one solo tackle and three assists as well as 1 1/2 sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for loss for minus-seven yards. F&M is 1-2.


Reese Fisher (State College, Juniata) has played in eight games and taken one shot. Juniata is 2-6.

Devin Kos (Bellefonte, Juniata) has a goal and has taken seven shots. Juniata is 2-5-1.

Taylor Golemboski (P-O, Juniata) has played in seven games and taken one shot.

Dieter Bahr (State College, Delaware) has played in one game and has no stats. Delaware is 6-2.

Elle Matalavage (State College, Paul Smith’s College) had an assist in Paul Smith’s 3-2 overtime loss to Albany College of Pharmacy on Saturday.

Kristin Dobransky (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has played in seven games and taken one shot. PSU-Altoona is 1-6.


Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 62 kills, five assists, eight aces, 24 digs and 43 blocked shots. DePaul is 2-10.

Megan Flick (Bald Eagle Area, Lock Haven) has 84 kills, 12 assists, one ace, 36 digs and 23 blocks. Lock Haven is 7-4.

Emma Weakland (State College, Winthrop) has 131 kills, 25 digs and 38 blocks. Winthrop is 9-6.

Kayla Confer (BEA, Lebanon Valley) has recorded 144 kills, an assist, two aces, 33 digs and 16 blocks. Lebanon Valley is 11-3.

Sara Torres (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has played in three games and has two digs. PSU-Altoona is 2-10.

Christine Irwin (State College, Juniata) has 36 kills, three assists, 10 aces, seven blocks and 72 digs. Juniata is 12-2 and ranked No. 6 in Division III.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) has scored one goal and taken six shots. Juniata is 4-2.

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) has started all six games and taken 10 shots. Haverford is 2-4.

Kayla Klaus (State College, Slippery Rock) has played in one game to date.

Summer Carson (State College, Dowling) has played in eight games and taken six shots. Dowling is 2-6.

Cross country

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) turned in a time of 27 minutes, 45 seconds over 5.2 miles in Penn State’s Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational two weeks ago.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) had a time of 27:41 in the Spiked Shoe.

Jason Doll (State College, Delaware Valley) placed 199th with a time of 22:30.68 in the 8-kilometer heat of the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational over the weekend.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) posted a time of 19:17 to place 54th in the Illinois State Invitational.

Kyle Adams (State College, Bucknell) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after finishing 34th at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational, covering 8K in 27:12.08.

Emma Cousins (State College, Bucknell) was seventh in the Dickingson Long/Short with a time of 23:28.92.
