Campus corner: Smack’s touchdown catch highlight in Lock Haven loss

Bernard Smack provided one of the few highlights for the Lock Haven football team in its 48-24 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday.

The former State College standout made a one-handed catch in the end zone to for a 15-yard touchdown for the final score of the game. Smack had five catches for 57 yards.

For the season he has one carry for eight yards, 28 receptions for 298 yards and three scores, has returned 16 kickoffs for 347 yards and has two tackles.

The Eagles are 0-7.


Shane Dorner (State College, Lafayette) has eight solo tackles and five assits, three tackles for loss for minus-10 yards, two sacks for minus-8 yards and two quarterback hurries. Lafayette is 3-3.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) has carried the ball 10 tmes for 45 yards and has four catches for 64 yards. Juniata is 2-3.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has six solo tackles and six assists, 11/2 tackles for loss for eight yards, one sack for minus-5 yards and one quarterback hurry. Shippensburg is 3-3.

Alex Boumerhi (P-O, Lock Haven) leads the team in scoring with 23 points. He’s 4 for 9 in field goal attempts and 11 for 12 in PATs.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) remains the starter at long snapper. Syracuse is 2-3 after falling to Florida State 38-20.

Jon Cox (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has 15 solo tackles and two assists. He has 1 1/2 sacks for five yards and 3 1/2 tackles for loss for seven yards along with one pass breakup. F&M is 2-3.

Alex Kenney (State College, UMass) has carried the ball twice for 22 yards and caught nine passes for 179 yards and a score. He also has returned three kickoffs for 66 yards and has one solo tackle and one assist. UMass is 0-7.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) has scored one goal and has taken seven shots. Juniata is 10-2.

Summer Carson (State College, Dowling) has played in 11 games and taken one shot.

Breanna Boehman (State College, Haverford) has two goals on 17 shots. Haverford is 5-7.

Cross country

Jason Doll (State College, Delaware Valley) placed 92nd out of 139 runners at the DeSales Invitational with a time of 32:43.99.

Kaelyn Yoder (State College, Campbell) was 258th in the Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 20:42.98.


Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has one kill, 12 assists, 24 digs and five aces. Muhlenberg (20-2) set the school record for consecutive wins (13) last weekend.

Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 98 kills, 10 aces, 29 digs, 62 blocks and six assists. DePaul is 3-15.

Megan Flick (Bald Eagle Area, Lock Haven) is second on the team in kills with 176. She also has 31 assists, six aces, 105 digs and 24 blocks. Lock Haven is 13-8

Suzanne Horner (State College, Iowa State) has 32 kills, 581 assists, 12 aces, 109 digs and 24 blocks. Iowa State is 9-6.

Emma Weakland (State College, Winthrop) has 131 kills, 25 digs and 38 blocks. Winthrop is 14-7.

Kayla Confer (BEA, Lebanon Valley) has 170 kills, one assist, two aces, 39 digs and 23 blocked shots. Lebanon Valley is 17-4.

Lauren Hester (State College, Indiana, Pa.) has 184 kills, seven assists, 28 aces, 227 digs and 15 blocks. IUP is 9-11.

Sara Torres (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has played in six games and has seven digs. Altoona is 9-11.

Christine Irwin (State College, Juniata) has 47 kills, five assists, 15 aces, 91 digs and eight blocks. No. 6 Juniata is 18-5.

Devin Kos (Bellefonte, Juniata) has scored one goal and taken seven shots in 12 games. Juniata is 4-6-2.

Elle Matalavage (State College, Paul Smith’s College) scored a goal in a 4-0 win over Vermont Tech on Oct. 4.

Victoria Crawford (State College, IUP) has scored five goals and has three assists for 13 points, second on the team. IUP is 7-4-2.
