Campus Corner: Hillsley swims to wins at Delaware

State College graduate Alex Hillsley had a banner day for the Delaware swimming and diving team Saturday.

The sophomore won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.04 seconds and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team in 1:26.58. He also was on the 200 medley relay team that placed second in 1:38.99 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.94.

Delaware swept Iona and St. Peter’s in the tri-meet.


Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) raised his record to 25-0 by pinning Tyler Small of Kent State in 2:56 as Edinboro won the dual meet 27-12. Small was an NCAA qualifier last year. Port remains the second-ranked wrestler in the nation at 141 pounds. Edinboro is 9-4. Wrestling for Kent State in the dual meet was Tyler Buckwalter, a former Central Mountain standout. He beat Edinboro’s Casey Fuller 3-2 at 165 pounds.


Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) is averaging 2.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists. Juniata is 5-11.

Dennis Fisher (Bald Eagle Area, Juniata) averages 4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Juniata is 8-8.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has a 4.7 scoring average. She has 29 rebounds, 31 assists, 14 steals and a block. Greensburg is 9-6.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 3.6 scoring average. She has seven rebounds, three assists and six steals. Kutztown is 6-10.

Mary Pillot (BEA, PSU-DuBois) has transferred from DuBois to Penn State’s main campus.

Alexis Frank (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) averages 1.2 points per game. She has six rebounds, one assist, two steals, two blocked shots nd three steals. Altoona is 5-9.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) is averaging 3.8 points per game and has 20 rebounds and 11 assists. Stony Brook is 12-7.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) averages 1.1 points per game. She has 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. St. Francis is 2-14.

Kaitlin Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) averages 9.0 points and 10.2 rebounds as well as 1.1 assists and 2.1 blocks. Fayette is 5-10.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) has a 7.8 scoring average and also averages 3.1 rebounds per game. He has 26 assists and 19 steals. Truman State is 12-6.


Emily Pate (State College, Delaware) placed third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.97 in the tri-meet with Iona and St. Peter’s. She also swam the 200 individual medley but did not place with a time of 2:13.08.

Indoor track & field

Miranda Boatman (Berllefonte, PSU-Behrend) was 15th in the 5,000 meters in 22 minutes, 23.46 seconds at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) was second in the 800 in the Illini Classic with a time of 2:14.96.

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) placed second in the weight throw with a distance of 56 feet, 2 inches at the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edniboro on Saturday. He also placed ninth in the shot put with a 42-1 3/4 effort.

Corey King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was seventh in the 60-meter dash in 7.23 and 11th in the 200 in 23.60 at Edinboro.

Tyler Shawver (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was 11th in the weight throw with a 40-113/4 mark at Edinboro.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) placed third in the 3,000 with a time of 9:05.74 at the Orange & Maroon Classic at Susquehanna.


Rose Wortman (Bellefonte, West Chester) scored a 9.200 on the vault in a meet against Cortland State.
