Campus Corner: State College trio helping Gettysburg swim team

Swimmers from State College left their mark in the Gettysburg swimming and diving team’s dual meet Saturday.

The Gettysburg men remained undefeated with a 151-108 win over Mary Washington. Former Little Lion Ian Schrock led a sweep of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 5.10 seconds. The Bullets are 6-0.

On the women’s side, Mary Washington downed Gettysburg 134-128. State College graduates Marie Gingher and Gwen Houck contributed points by placing second and third, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke with Gingher turning in a time of 2:35.26 and Houck taking third in 2:39.54. Gingher also placed third in the 100 breaststroke.

The Lady Bullets are now 5-2.


Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) raised his record to 27-0 with a fall over Bloomsburg’s Tanner Cahill in 2:52. Edinboro won the meet 38-3 and is now 11-4. Port, ranked second at 141 pounds, now has a career record of 123-15.


Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) is averaging 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. Juniata is 6-12.

Dennis Fisher (Bald Eagle Area, Juniata) averages 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game as well as 1.3 assists. Juniata is 8-10.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) scores an average of 4.6 points per game and averages 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists. She also has 17 steals and one block. Greensburg is 11-6.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 3.2 scoring average with 10 rebounds, three assists and six steals. Kutztown is 6-12.

Alexis Frank (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has a 1.2 scoring average with six rebounds, an assist and two steals. Altoona is 7-10.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) averages 3.7 points per game. He has 21 rebounds, 15 assists, two blocked shots and six steals. Stony Brook is 14-8.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has a 1.1 scoring average with 12 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. St. Francis is 2-16.

Kaitlin Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) averages 8.7 points and 10.1 rebounds to go with a 1.2 assist average and a 1.9 blocked-shot average. Fayette is 5-11.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) is averaging 7.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also has 26 assists and 19 steals. Truman State is 14-5.


Gwen Lowery (Bellefonte, PSU-Behrend) won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.24 and was second in the 200 butterfly in 1:04.32 in a dual meet loss to Washington & Jefferson.

Emily Pate (State College, Delaware) was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.48 in the Blue Hens’ 174-126 loss to Pennsylvania.

Alex Hillsley (State College, Delaware) was fourth in the 100 freestyle (48.55), fourth in the 500 free (4:53.92) and sixth in the 50 free (22.11) in a 184-98 loss to Penn.

Indoor track & field

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) was 14th in the 800-meter run in the Rod McCray Memorial at Kentucky with a time of 2:11.32.

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) was fourth in the weight throw at the YSU Invitational at Youngstown State with a throw of 56 feet, 1/2 inch. He also was 19th in the shot put with a 40-11 1/2 effort.

Cory King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was 17th in the 60-meter dash in 7.25 seconds and 20th in the 200 in 23.23.


Rose Wortman (Bellefonte, West Chester) posted a 9.325 on the vault as West Chester finished fourth in a quad meet with North Carolina, Towson and William and Mary.
