Campus Corner: Former Bald Eagle Area standout Beals makes big throw for Lock Haven

Former Bald Eagle Area athlete Brice Beals made a strong showing at the Youngstown State Invitational track and field meet last weekend.

The junior thrower at Lock Haven University placed second in the 35-pound weight throw with a top heave of 56 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Connor Neu of Division I Youngstown State won the event with a 65-6 3/4 effort.

Beals also competed in the shot put, where he had a 39-3 effort to place 27th.

Wrestling

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) recorded his 12th fall of the season and raised his record to 29-0 in a dual meet win against Lock Haven. Port, ranked second in the country at 141 pounds, will now face top-ranked Logan Stieber of Ohio State in the NWCA Team Duals on Friday.

Jake Taylor (BEA, Cornell) is 13-7 with three pins at 174 pounds. Cornell won its 13th straight Ivy League title over the weekend.

Nick Shawley (Bellefonte, Clarion) went 0-2 at the Edinboro Open tournament.

JB Holden (State College, PSU-Mont Alto) went 3-0 at 141 pounds at the Mont Alto Spring Duals.

Basketball

Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) averages 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds for Juniata, which is 8-14.

Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) has a 4.0 scoring average and a 2.4 rebounding average. Juniata is 11-11.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) averages 4.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and has 22 steals and a block. Greensburg is 13-8.

Alexis Frank (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has a 1.2 scoring average and two steals. Altoona is 9-12.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) averages 3.9 points per game to go with 26 rebounds, 15 assists, three steals and seven blocked shots. Stony Brook is 15-10.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) averages 1.0 points per game. She also has 13 rebounds, 12 assists and six seals. St. Francis is 3-19.

Kaitlin Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) averages 8.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. Fayette is 6-15.

Swimming

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 9.35 seconds) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.18) in a dual meet against Franklin and Marshall. Gettysburg won 147-115.

Gwen Houck (State College, Gettysburg) was fifth in 100 breaststroke in 1:13.11 and fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.95 against F&M.

Track & field

Cory King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) ran a 23.14 in the 200-meter dash at the Youngstown State Invitational.

Tyler Shawver (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was 30th in the 35-pound weight throw at Youngstown with a 36-9 throw.

Emma Cousins (State College, Bucknell) was 11th in the 800 in 2:25.45 at the Youngstown State Invitational and was fourth in the 1,000 in 3:00.35

Kyle Adams (State College, Bucknell) was 34th in the 800 in 2:02.20 at Youngstown and seventh in the 1,000 in 2:37.16.

Zach Moody (BEA, Misericordia) was 10th in the 3,000 in 9:35.19 at the Crusader Classic at Susquehanna.

Emma Federinko (Penns Valley, Misericordia) was 15th in the 3,000 at Susquehanna in 11:58.08

Gymnastics

Rose Wortman (Bellefonte, West Chester) scored a 9.275 in the vault in a quad meet with Ursinus, Rhode Island and Bridgeport in which West Chester broke a school scoring record with 191 points.

Kyra Levi (State College, Penn) placed sixth in the floor exercise with a 9.7 as Penn defeated Temple in a dual meet.

Softball

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) was named to the preseason All-NEC second team. She was third on the team in batting with a .309 average last year and was also third in home runs with five and second in RBIs with 32. St. Francis opens its season Friday against Coppin State in the North Carolina A&T tournament.
