Campus Corner: Cousins earns Patriot League honor to help Bucknell win league meet title

State College graduate Emma Cousins earned All-Patriot League honors at the league track and field indoor championship meet at Navy over the weekend.

Cousins, a freshman, ran the third leg of the distance medley team that won the event in 12 minutes, 3.02 seconds. The top two finishers in the event received all-league honors.

Bucknell won the women’s team championship with ease, totaling 180 points, well ahead of runner-up Boston University’s 112.5.

Wrestling

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) pinned West Virginia’s Mike Morales in 4:32 to raise his reord to 30-1 for the season as Edinboro topped the Mountaineers 25-9. Port, ranked second at 141 pounds, has a career mark of 126-16. Tyrone graduate AJ Schopp returned to the Edinboro lineup for the first time since late December and earned a 6-0 win over Cory Stainbrook. Schopp is ranked second in the country at 133. Edinboro finished the regular season with a 14-5 record.

Basketball

Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) had a 2.3 points-per-game scoring average and a 1.1 rebound average as she finished her career Sunday in an 86-78 loss to Moravian. Juniata finished 8-17.

Dennis Fisher (Bald Eagle Area, Juniata) is scoring an average of 3.7 points per game. He also averages 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists. Juniata is 12-13.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has 31 steals, one blocked shot and averages 5.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.0 rebounds. Greensburg is 16-9.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 3.2 scoring average and has 17 rebounds, five assists and 10 steals. Kutztown is 10-15.

Alexis Frank (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) averages 11 points per game. She has six rebounds. Altoona is 10-15.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) averages 3.7 points and 1.0 rebounds. She also has 16 assists, three blocked shots and seven steals. Stony Brook is 19-10.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has 14 rebounds, six steals, 13 assists and a 1.1 scoring average. Altoona is 5-21.

Kaitlin Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) has an 8.3 scoring average to go with a 9.5 rebound average. She also averages 1.0 assists per game. Fayette is 8-17.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) returned to the lineup Saturday for the first time since December. He averages 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. He also has 28 assists and 19 steals. Truman is 18-9.

Swimming

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) took third in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Centennial Conference meet in 1:07.62. Gettysburg finished third in the meet, which was won by Ursinus.

Gwen Houck (State College, Gettysburg) was 14th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:52.36.

Ian Schrock (State College, Gettysburg) was eighth in the 100 backstroke (54.08), 10th in the 100 butterfly (53.08) and 10th in the 200 butterfly (1:57.41), while also helping teams to ninth-place results in the 200 free, 400 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays. Gettysburg won the team title and finished the regular season 9-0.

Joe Woodman (State College, Massachusetts) was sixth in the 1,650 freestyle in 15:46.49 and seventh in the 500 free in 4:30.68 to help UMass win the Atlantic 10 team title with 589.5 points, edging St. Bonaventure’s 569.

Indoor track & field

Zach Moody (BEA, Misericordia) was 22nd in the mile in 4:45.92 at the Susquehanna Indoor Open.

Emma Federinko (Penns Valley, Misericordia) was 26th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:04.59 at Susquehanna.

Molly Love (State College, UNC-Wilmington) pole-vaulted 11 feet, 3 inches at the Virginia Tech Challenge.

Gymnastics

Rose Wortman (Bellefonte, West Chester) had a 9.4 in the vault in a tri-meet with West Chester and Bridgeport.

Kyra Levi (State College, Penn) had a score of 9.725 in the floor exercise as Penn won the Ivy Classic by .300 over Brown.

Softball

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) had a tie-breaking RBI-double as St. Francis beat St. Joseph’s 5-1 in the Spooky Nook Dome in Manheim over the weekend. St. Francis (5-0) also won the second game 3-1 in a five-inning game. Parsons leads the team in hitting at .471 and RBIs with seven. She has scored six runs and has eight hits including two doubles and a triple.

Chelsea Rex (Philipsburg-Osceola, St. Francis) is hitting .400 with two runs scored and two hits including a double. She has one RBI. In the circle she has a 2.08 ERA with three hits, one earned run allowed, two walks and eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Vanessa Cooper (Bellefonte, UMass-Lowell) is hitting .208 with two runs scored, five hits, a double, two home runs and seven RBIs. UMass-Lowell is 8-7.
