The Penn State softball team was swept in a doubleheader at Sacramento State on Thursday.
The Nittany Lions dropped its first game 4-1 to Grand Canyon.
The Antelopes took control with a three-run second inning, highlighted by Camree Wartman’s two-run home run. Penn State pinch-runner Mary Ward scored the team’s lone run on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Grand Canyon’s Kailey Regester allowed one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Penn State’s Marlaina Laubach gave up three runs on five hits in four innings in the loss.

Sacramento State defeated Penn State 6-1 in the nightcap. The Nittany Lions had just two hits, one an RBI double by Alyssa VanDerveer in fifth to tie the score at 1-1
Sacramento State (8-12) scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, then broke the contest open with four runs in the sixth. Penn State made two errors in the four-run inning.
Caitlin Brooks (4-2) went the distance for the winners, walking one and striking out nine. Marissa Diescher (2-3) allowed three runs and six hits, while walking four in five innings.
The Nittany Lions continue the tournament against Loyola Marymount at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
