Campus Corner: Bald Eagle Area’s Chambers swinging hot bat for Penn State-Altoona

Penn State-Altoona’s Kelly Chambers is justifying her selection as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Co-Player of the Year selection.

The Bald Eagle Area graduate leads the team in batting average at .451 (23-for-51), hits (23), doubles (five), home runs (five), RBIs (24), and is also 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. She also has scored 15 runs, second-most on the team.

Penn State-Altoona is off to a 10-7 start. As a team it is 23-for-24 in stolen bases.

Baseball

Justin Taylor (BEA, California, Pa.) is 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA. In 22 2/3 innings he has allowed 34 hits and 16 runs, 14 earned, walked two and struck out 26. The Vulcans are 10-11.

Drew Bryan (Philipsburg-Osceola, VMI) has a .417 average (5-for-12), with a pair of doubles and an RBI. VMI is 6-14.

Austin Mock (State College, Indiana, Pa.) is hitting .289 with nine runs scored, 13 hits, five doubles, a homer and 12 RBIs. IUP is 7-7.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) is hitting .273. He has scored 18 runs and has 33 hits including seven doubles, a triple and two homers. He also has driven in nine runs. The Hokies are 15-14.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is hitting .321 with 14 runs scored, 18 hits, six doubles and 11 RBIs. A-B is 12-7.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA. In 7 1/3 innings he has given up 12 hits and nine runs, eight earned, while walking one and striking out seven. Lock Haven is 4-12.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is hitting at a .392 clip with 35 runs scored, 38 hits, six doubles, a triple, six homers and 22 RBIs. Shippensburg is 11-15.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) has worked 30 innings and has allowed 35 hits and 25 runs, 21 earned, while walking 18 and striking out 32. He is 3-2 with a 6.30 ERA.

Calvin Sichler (State College, Shippensburg) has a pair of hits, one a double, three runs scored and is 1 for 1 in stolen bases.

Caleb Pepperday (P-O), Juniata) is 1-0 with a 12.27 ERA. He has allowed 16 hits and 10 runs, all earned, while walking four and striking out four. Juniata is 6-9.

Bryce Greene (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .154 with a run scored, two hits and a stolen base.

Anthony Montresor (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is 0-for-5 to date. Altoona is 6-12.

Jarred Dailey (State College, PSU-Altoona) has a 9.39 ERA and is 0-0. In 15 1/3 innings he has given up 27 hits and 18 runs, 16 earned, walked seven and struck out 10.

Softball

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is third on the team in hitting with a .410 average. She has scored nine runs and has three doubles and a triple among her 16 hits. She is second on the team in RBIs with 10 and has stolen four bases in four tries.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is 6-2 with a 2.60 ERA. In 59 1/3 innings she has given up 65 hits and 33 runs, 22 earned, walked 16 and struck out 38. At the plate she is hitting .240 with three runs scored and six hits including two doubles and a triple.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) has a .386 average with 16 runs scored, 17 hits, four doubles and seven RBIs. She is perfect in stolen base attempts with three in three attempts.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has a .238 average with four runs scored, five singles and five RBIs.

Ashley Struble (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .313 with six runs scored, 10 hits, a double and four RBIs. In the circle she is 1-0 with a 10.00 ERA. In 7 innings she has yielded 13 hits and 13 runs, 10 earned, while walking seven and striking out five.

Jess McClenahan (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is 0-for-5 with a run scored.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) is 3-4 with a 4.43 ERA. In 36 1/3 innings she has given up 49 hits and 38 runs, 23 earned, walked 17 and struck out 23. At the plate she is hitting .278 with three runs scored, five hits, two doubles, a triple and two RBIs.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) has a .318 average with three runs scored and seven hits. Lycoming is 9-5.

Shawna Risely (BEA, Lycoming) is 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Tessa Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting .378 with nine runs scored, 17 hits and three RBIs. She is 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts. Lebanon Valley is 5-9.

Chelsea Rex (P-O, St. Francis) is 0-0 with a 2.16 ERA and a save. In 8 1/3 innings she has given up six hits and two runs, both earned, walked three and struck out 10. At the plate she is hitting .222 with five runs scored, six hits a double, a homer and three RBIs.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) is the top hitter on the team with a .349 average. She is also the team leader in hits with 30, doubles with nine, triples with six and is tied for first in runs scored with 17. She is second in RBIs with 14 and has stolen four bases in five tries. St. Francis is 18-8.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) has a .212 average with a run scored, seven hits, two doubles and five RBIs. CCSU is 13-7.

Vanessa Cooper (Bellefonte, UMass-Lowell) has a .184 average with seven hits, a double two home runs and three runs scored, knocking in eight runs. The River Hawks are 9-13.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) is hitting .353 with three runs scored, 12 hits, four doubles and six RBIs. Clarion is 2-8.

Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) has no hits in 10 at-bats. Juniata is 5-11.

Track & field

Corey King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 11.32 seconds at the Fred Hardy Invitational at Richmond, Va. He was 30th in the 200 in 23.36.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) was third in the 10,000 at the Jim Taylor Invitational in 33:25.84.

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) took second in the 10,000 with a time of 33:25.80. Susquehanna swept the top three spots in the event.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) anchored the 4x400 relay team to a second-place finish in 3:53.87 at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational.
