Campus Corner: Bald Eagle Area’s Parsons tearing up competition for St. Francis softball

St. Francis senior and Bald Eagle Area graduate Taylor Parsons was named Player of the Week by the Northeast Conference on Monday after a huge weekend, including a grand slam, for the Red Flash softball team.

Taylor Parsons turned into an RBI machine for the St. Francis softball team over the weekend.

In four games she drove in 15 runs, had a pair of homers, a .938 slugging percentage and a .438 batting average.

After driving in nine runs in a doubleheader sweep over Wagner on Saturday, she had six RBIs in a split with LIU-Brooklyn on Sunday, four of them coming on a game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning of a game St. Francis eventually won 9-8 in eight innings.

The performance helped the senior outfielder land Player of the Week honors from the Northeast Conference.

The Bald Eagle Area product leads the team in hitting with a .373 mark, hits with 47, doubles with 15, triples with six and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 31. Her six triples is tied for eighth in the nation in Division I, and her average of .39 doubles per game is ninth in the country. She has scored 31 runs and has three homers. St. Francis is 26-12.

Baseball

Justin Taylor (BEA, California, Pa.) is 2-3 with a 5.53 ERA. In 42 1/3 innings he has given up 61 hits and 29 runs, 26 earned, while walking five and striking out 44. Cal is 19-19.

Drew Bryan (Philipsburg-Osceola, VMI) is hitting .304 with seven hits, a double and one RBI. VMI is 12-21.

Austin Mock (State College, Indiana, Pa.) has 35 RBIs, 11 home runs, nine doubles and is hitting .344 with 44 hits and 37 runs scored. IUP is 17-18-1.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) is hitting .293 with 21 runs scored, 44 hits, 9 doubles, a triple, two homers and 12 RBIs. The Hokies are 19-21.

Bryce Greene (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has a .262 average with nine runs scored, 11 hits, a double and is 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. PSU-Altoona is 11-22.

Anthony Montresor (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) has a .167 average with a pair of singles and two RBIs.

Jared Daily (State College, PSU-Altoona) is 0-3 with a 9.69 ERA. In 26 innings he has allowed 56 hits and 44 runs, 28 earned, while walking 11 and striking out 13.

Trey Nicosia (State College, Wagner) is hitting .293 with 24 runs scored, 34 hits, eight doubles and eight RBIs. Wagner is 16-14-1.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is hitting .327. He has scored 25 runs and has 37 hits, nine doubles, a triple and 26 RBIs. A-B is 25-11.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA. In 24 innings he has allowed 31 hits and 21 runs, 18 earned, while walking eight and striking out 30. Lock Haven is 10-23.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) leads the team in hitting with a .400 average, runs scored with 42 and is second in homers with seven. He has 52 hits, 10 doubles, a triple and 25 RBIs. Shippensburg is 19-29.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 4-5 with a save and a 5.56 ERA. In 56 2/3 innings he has given up 65 hits and 45 runs, 35 earned, while walking 27 and striking out 50.

Calvin Sichler (State College, Shippensburg) is hitting .095 with three runs scored, two hits and a double.

Caleb Pepperday (P-O, Juniata) is 1-2 with a 12.10 ERA. He has given up 28 runs, 26 earned, 36 hits, 16 walks and has struck out nine in 19 1/3 innings. Juniata is 7-21.

Softball

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .329 with 19 runs scored, 27 hits, six doubles, a triple, two homers and 18 RBIs. Altoona is 22-9.

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) leads the team in hitting with a .442 average, hits with 42, doubles with seven, homers with 12 and RBIs with 42. Her 12 homers also lead the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. In a doubleheader sweep of Medaille over the weekend, she was 4-for-8 with a homer, a double, five RBIs and one run scored.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) pitched two complete games against Medaille, giving up 12 hits, one earned run, walking one and striking out eight. For the season she is 13-4 with a 1.98 ERA. In 124 innings she has allowed 109 hits and 56 runs, 35 earned, while walking 27 and striking out 80. At the plate she is hitting .288 with seven runs scored, 15 hits, four doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is the team leader in runs with 36 and doubles with nine. She is second in hitting at .424, hits with 39, RBIs with 25 and home runs with three.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has raised her average to .315 with five runs scored, 17 hits, four doubles and 19 RBIs, third on the team.

Ashley Struble (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitting. 283 with 19 runs scored, 15 hits, a double, a homer and eight RBIs. As a pitcher she is 1-0 with a 10.00 ERA. In 7 innings she has allowed 13 hits and 13 runs, 10 earned, walked seven and struck out five.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) has a .290 average with four runs scored, nine hits, three doubles, a triple and eight RBIs. In the circle she is 8-4 with a 4.20 ERA. She has allowed 84 hits and 54 runs, 38 earned, while walking 22 and striking out 37 in 63 1/3 innings.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) is hitting .255 with six runs scored, 12 hits and an RBIs. Lycoming is 14-14.

Tessa Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting .392 with 21 runs scored, 40 hits, four RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 18 tries. Lebanon Valley is 9-21.

Chelsea Rex (P-O, St. Francis) is 1-0 with a 3.87 ERA and a save. In 12 2/3 innings she has given up 14 hits and seven runs, all earned, while walking five and striking out 12.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) has a .226 average with four runs scored, 14 hits, five doubles and nine RBIs. Central Connecticut State is 23-8.

Vanessa Cooper (Bellefonte, UMass-Lowell) has improved her average to .288 with five runs scored, 23 hits, four doubles, thee homers and 20 RBIs. Lowell is 15-23.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) has a .278 average with six runs scored, 27 hits, even doubles, three homers and 14 RBIs. Clarion is 5-27.

Ally Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting .100 with a run scored, a single and an RBIs. Juniata is 7-21.

Track & field

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 152 feet, 1 inch and third in the hammer throw with a 167-11 effort at the Bucknell Team Challenge.

Corey King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) took fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.02 seconds and seventh in the 200 in 22.41 at Bucknell.

Tyler Shawver (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) was 15th in the shot put with a throw of 35-2 1/2 at Bucknell.

Molly Love (State College, UNC-Wilmington) was eighth in the pole vault at the Charlotte Invitational with a 10-4 vault.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) took eighth in the 400 in 59.26 at the Illinois Twilight meet.

Nora Adams (State College, Bucknell) was 23rd in the 1,500 in 5:03.72 in the Bucknell Team Challenge.

Emma Cousins (State College, Bucknell) was 12th in the 1,500 in 4:50.78 in the Team Challenge.

Matt Fuller (Penns Valley, Edinboro) placed 12th in the 5,000 at the Dave Labor Invitational at Slippery Rock in 17:13.66.

Carolyn Darr (Penns Valley, Delaware) was part of the 10-place 4x400 relay team, finishing in 3:58.86, at the Legacy Meet at Morgan State in Baltimore. The Blue Hens finished second out of 19 teams at the meet.

Curtis Markle (BEA, Penn State) had a shot put throw of 21-8, a discus throw of 60-2 and a javelin throw of 61-5 in the wheelchair 55 class at the Bucknell Team Challenge while competing unattached.
