The Lemont Ducks used a four-run first inning to jump to a lead they would never relenquish in a 7-4 Centre County Baseball League win over the Howard Hawks on Tuesday night at Spring Creek Park.
Caleb Walls belted a solo home run as part of the four-run frame, and later added a double. Ben Finlan started and took the win, with relief help from Zach Smeal and Jared Dailey in the season’s first win for the Ducks (1-1).
Tyler Womer took the loss and added a triple and single on the offensive side for Howard (1-1).
Klinger baffles Braves
Cody Klinger put on a masterful performance Tuesday, pitching a two-hit, complete-game shutout in a 5-0 Clarence victory over Spring Mills.
Klinger struck out 16 and walked just one for the Mounties (1-0) in their season opener. The only hits allowed were high-bouncing infield singles.
Justin Taylor’s two singles paced the offense, assisted by a half-dozen errors by the Braves (0-2).
