PIAA slate set for Centre County’s baseball, lacrosse teams

The next opponents await Centre County’s surviving teams in the PIAA playoffs.

The state tournament continues Saturday for the State College boys’ lacrosse team. Fresh off a heart-stopping double-overtime win over North Allegheny on Wednesday, the Little Lions meet Cumberland Valley at 1 p.m. at Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown. The Eagles beat the Little Lions 5-4 on April 7 in Mid Penn Conference play.

The state baseball tournament opens Monday.

State College will face Norwin in a Class AAAA first-round game at Hollidaysburg High School at 4 p.m. The Little Lions beat Altoona for the District 6 title and DuBois in a play-in game this past week.

Bellefonte will meet West Allegheny at 3:30 p.m. at Philipsburg-Osceola’s field. The Red Raiders upended Somerset for the District 6 Class AAA crown Wednesday.

The Little Lions and Red Raiders are trying to survive to the state championships, set for Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on June 12.
