State College graduate Saige Jenco was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 27th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.

Jenco just finished his redshirt sophomore season at Virginia Tech, where he was second on the team with a .330 batting average. Jenco also started all 48 games he played in and stole a team-high 10 bases on 11 attempts. He was second on the team in hits (68), doubles (13) and triples (3).

Jenco, a center fielder, earned third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors this season.

He started 51 games and hit .323 in 2014.

Jenco was the 801st pick of the draft.
