After watching a six-run lead evaporate late, Justin Taylor’s walk-off single gave Clarence a 7-6 victory over Philipsburg on Tuesday, handing the Pirates their first loss of the season in Centre County Baseball League play.
The Mounties (7-1) loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning before Taylor’s single in bring in Ryan Guenot.
Cody Klinger pitched five shutout innings before faltering in the sixth, when the Pirates (8-1) scored all their runs. Klinger finished the game, striking out seven, walking one and allowing eight hits.
Bryce Greene, Ryan MacNamara, Brian Kochik and Derek Jabco all doubled for Clarence, which pounded out 13 hits.
