Bellefonte held on to beat State College 5-2 in the first game of the Central Penn League American Legion baseball playoffs on Friday night.
State College pitcher Triston Ballenger retired the first nine batters in a row, and his offense scored two runs in the first inning.
Bellefonte’s Ryan McElwee then singled and a second runner tagged, after which Ballenger walked the next three batters to score two. He walked one more in the fourth, and Bellefonte scored again in the sixth off a double-steal that was initiated by Alex Struble and sent in McElwee.
Bandits pitcher Jeremy Warefield earned the win for Bellefonte despite allowing six hits and walking three batters.
