Kyle Gill hit a single that drove in three runs on Saturday afternoon to open the offensive floodgates for Bald Eagle Area, who beat Penns Valley 10-4 in the VFW Area 5 15-16 Championship game.
Pitcher Brian Egan earned the win, shutting out Penns Valley through three innings before giving up two runs in the fourth. He had nine strikeouts but walked seven, prompting Ty Walker to come in for relief.
Walker gave up two initial runs, but settled in to strike out five and finished off the win.
Bald Eagle Area scored two in the second inning before Gill’s hit highlighted a big five-run third frame. They added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Since the top two teams advanced to the state tournament, BEA and Penns Valley’s season will continue. They won’t have to travel too far as the state tournament is hosted by Clearfield. It will begin on Friday.
