County League baseball: Womers’ one-hitter send Howard Hawks past Clarence Mounties

Dillon and Tyler Womer combined to pitch a one-hitter and Brandon Gettig drove in the game’s only run as the Howard Hawks took the opening game of their semifinal series with the Clarence Mounties on Sunday.

The best-of-five series will shift to Howard for Game 2 on Tuesday.

Kyle Womer led off the fifth inning with a single, and Cole Long followed with a walk, and both were advanced on a Ryan Dyke sacrifice bunt. Following an out, Gettig singed to right field to score Womer, but Long was cut down at the plate with the tag of catcher Mike Lutz.

Dillon Womer struck out six and walked six over 51/3 innings, with Tyler Womer finishing the day on the mound for the save.

The only hit surrendered by the pitching brothers was a fourth-inning double by Matt Fisher.

Cody Klinger struck out three and gave up six hits in the complete-game loss.
