Penn State women’s tennis player Katherine Whiteaway won the ITA Division I Atlantic Regional Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, the athletic department announced on Wednesday.
Whiteaway also was one of 14 athletes to win the Big Ten Sportsmanship award earlier this year.
The ITA/Arthur Ashe, Jr., Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship takes into account a player’s tennis accomplishments, scholastic achievement and extracurricular endeavors.
“We are all very proud of Katherine for winning this prestigious award,” said head coach Chris Cagle, according to a release. “The award recognizes student-athletes that have demonstrated leadership as well as academic, scholastic and tennis successes. Katherine exemplifies all of these qualities and is a worthy recipient.”
