Howard uses 17-run inning to rout Clarence Mounties

Howard exploded for 17 runs in the sixth inning and cruised to a 22-4 win over the Clarence Mounties in six innings in Centre County Baseball League play Wednesday night.

Howard sent 23 batters to the plate and finished with 10 hits in the 17-run inning. Tyler Womer recorded all three of his hits — a double and two singles — in the inning. Dylan Burns had a three-run double for the Hawks.

Gage Gardner had three hits, and Evan Gettig, Scott Zuback and Clay Smith each had two hits for Howard.

Bryce Greene paced Clarence with three hits, and Noah Chambers hit a two-run home run.

Howard (10-8) earned the No. 3 seed for the playoffs and will face Lemont in the first round Sunday. The Mounties (15-2), who have a first-round bye, return to action Friday at Spring Mills.
