Penn State's men's volleyball team earned its first win of the season, outlasting Hawaii in five sets late Friday night in the Outrigger Invitational.
One night after enduring a five-set loss to No. 5 UCLA on Thursday, the No. 7 Nittany Lions dropped the Warriors 24-26, 25-18, 17-25, 25-15, 16-14 in a 2 1/2-hour match that finished after 2:30 a.m.
Penn State was back on the court late Saturday, facing No. 10 Ohio State in the tournament finale.
The Nittany Lions were led by Aaron Russell's 17 kills and seven digs, Tom Comfort's 15 kills and four blocks, Peter Russell's 11 kills, Nick Turko's seven blocks, Matt Seifert's five blocks and Taylor Hammond's 50 assists.

Penn State had a 7-5 lead in aces, with two each for Turko, Comfort and Seifert, and a 13.5-10 advantage in blocks. The Lions hit .294 to the Warriors' .248.
