Peterson, Millersville still alive in D2 baseball tourney

Kyle Peterson and Millersville are still alive in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Series.

The Marauders beat Angelo State 1-0 in the opener of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament Saturday, and defeated Cal Poly Pomona 11-3 on Monday night, though Peterson did not play in either game.

Millersville next plays Thursday against a to-be-determined opponent.

Peterson, a freshman right-handed pitcher from State College, has yet to play in the championship series. This season he has a 5-0 record in 11 appearances, posting a 3.42 ERA with 20 hits, 12 runs, 10 earned, 20 strikeouts and 14 walks over 26 1/3 innings.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) finished his season with a .302 batting average, posting 55 hits, 34 runs, eight doubles, one triple, 23 RBIs and a .437 on-base percentage, stealing 12 bases in 16 attempts for the Hokies (19-36).
