Campus Corner: Millersville, Peterson fall in NCAA title series

The Millersville baseball team, with the help of State College’s Kyle Peterson, saw its season end in the NCAA Division II National Championship Series as the Marauders fell 8-6 to Nova Southeastern on Saturday.

Nova Southeastern took the first two games of the best-of-three championship series, winning 2-1 on Friday, to earn the title as Millersville finished with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record 53 wins.

Peterson did not play in any of the Marauders’ five games in the championship tournament in Cary, N.C. The freshman posted a 5-0 record in 11 appearances this season, notching a 3.42 ERA with 20 hits, 12 runs, 10 earned, 20 strikeouts and 14 walks over 26 1/3 innings.


Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Lycoming) was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Spring Sportsmanship Team. Poorman, who graduated last month, started 36 games this past season with a .282 average, collecting 22 hits, 15 runs, nine RBIs, three doubles and two triples.
