Penn State softball slips past Georgia Tech

Penn State got off on the right foot Friday in its opening game at the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge, as it finished with a 3-2 win over Georgia Tech.

Redshirt junior Mia Monopoli drove in two runs on a second-inning hit — in her first start of the season — while sophomore pitcher Madison Seifert tied a career-high six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Penn State will take on Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. Saturday before again playing at 3 p.m. against Georgia Tech.
