How's this for adding spice to a county tournament.
Derry Area's James Gulibon, a two-time state champ, moved up from 119 to wrestle at 125 pounds in the Westmoreland County Coaches Association tournament. Gulibon's reasoning for the move was to face two-time state champ Nico Megaludis of Franklin Regional in the finals. Megaludis, a Penn State recruit, prevailed 4-3.
Gulibon deserves praise for the move. It's not often an athlete puts his own record at stake to face a challenge as big as wrestling Megaludis, who has one career loss.
Gulibon and Megaludis are among the nation's best wrestlers. What happened Saturday should enhance both wrestlers' reputations.
