The absence of a dominant team helps Centre County wrestling in one regard: Dual meets are more exciting.
Before Jan. 1, we witnessed Bellefonte 39, Philipsburg-Osceola 33; Clearfield 36, Bald Eagle Area 33; Bellefonte 33, Bald Eagle 32.
Three competitive meets. Three reasons to continue dropping $4 or $5 to get into the gym.
Two meets this week have potential to provide similar excitement. Bellefonte (2-1) travels to Clearfield (3-1) on Tuesday. The Red Raiders and Bisons appear evenly-matched at multiple weights, including 171, where athletic seniors Brad Grieb and Derek Danver could meet. Grieb and Danver were key parts in both schools' football success.

A day later, Philipsburg-Osceola (1-2) travels to Bald Eagle Area (2-2). The Mounties are filling all 14 weights, which could help if the Eagles are forced to forfeit 135 and 140 like they have in some recent meets. A bout to watch is 160, where BEA senior Coleman Hoffman and P-O senior Luke Greenawalt display contrasting styles. Hoffman has an effective headlock. Greenawalt likes to roll around on the mat.
Other events involving Centre County teams this week: Tuesday — Bald Eagle Area at Hollidaysburg, State College at Altoona, Lewistown at Penns Valley; Thursday — Bellefonte at Indian Valley; Friday — State College at Red Storm Duals; Saturday — Penns Valley, Philipsburg-Osceola at Juniata Duals, Bald Eagle Area at Escape the Rock Tournament.
